Sarah was an extraordinary soul, whose generosity, kindness and creativity touched many lives. Her spirituality and compassion were present across her work, her art, and throughout her life. She had a ready laugh and smile and a keen intelligence. She was always on the side of the vulnerable and thinking of others.
Sarah and her husband Brett had done numerous long sailing trips together. They set off from Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Theros in June 2024 to realise Brett's dream of crossing the Atlantic. The alarm was raised shortly after they stopped sending location signals. Sadly their bodies were found in a lifeboat on Sable Island, Nova Scotia, a few weeks later.
Sarah had spent much of her time in recent years on Salt Spring Island, between mainland British Columbia and Vancouver Island, where together they had almost finished building their own off-grid home, with Sarah becoming a proud Canadian citizen just last year. Unfortunately Sarah has no immediate family resident in the UK, so we are organising a memorial for her, as her friends and as the celebrant for her service of marriage blessing, only 7 years ago. We are consequently crowdfunding to help with the expenses of the day.
Long Itchington, just outside Coventry, UK was Sarah's childhood home, and both her parents are laid to rest here. It seemed the most suitable place for us to hold her memorial. We have sought to make access to the afternoon's different elements of saying good-bye as easy as possible for you all. This includes addressing live-streaming as best we can, as Sarah's friends are found all across the globe.
We invite all of you to share your memories of Sarah on this site - please add your stories, memories and photos via the 'contribute' area. We would love to have some poetry or musical suggestions alongside, which can be made via our response sheet when you let us know you are planning to come, or in the 'thoughts' section on this page.
We hope you will be able to join us in remembering Sarah's wonderful life either in person or online on the day of her memorial. Bright clothes on the day please - we shall all miss her profoundly, but the memory of her held within each one who attends, will kindle smiles, laughter and kindness, to accompany our tears as we say our goodbyes together.
